Research on Non-contact Recognition Method of Building Exterior Wall Defects Based on Multi-modal Fusion, RMB 300,000 (On-going)
Abstract
Falling objects from exterior walls of high-rise buildings caused by the degradation of construction materials has become one of the open challenges in the “post-urbanization” era. At present, the academia and the industry commonly utilize visible light images to detect cracks on the surface; or use infrared images to detect hollow behind the surface of high-rise buildings. However, the exterior-wall defects are widespread and interconnected. The challenge is evident that accurately and completely detect all defects only depends on a single data acquisition. In response to this problem, this research draws upon from the principle of multi-modal data fusion, and proposes an approach to identify multiple defects on the exterior walls of high-rise buildings through the integration of multi-model data, such as visible light images, infrared images, and BIM models. The research is composed of three parts: firstly, establish a spatial alignment method for multi-modal perception data; and then devise a multi-level fusion method that mixes pixel-level, feature-level, and decision-making-level strategies; finally, build up a multi-objective and multi-scale exterior-wall defect recognition model using deep neural networks and generative adversarial networks. The research results could achieve an accurate and complete identification of the defects on the exterior-walls of high-rise buildings, serving a smart management tool for urban development whilst it is transforming from incremental expansion to stock optimization. In addition, in terms of engineering multi-modal data fusion and the public safety management of smart city, this research could also rationalize governance and controls, optimize human performance and innovating with technology.
